Well, here I am, less than two weeks away from the launch of book 2 in my series.
I wanted to take a moment to share with everyone where the inspiration came from to write about the world where my main character and her friends live.
I’ve always had a vivid imagination, and I guess you could say I’m a lucid dreamer. I can control my dreams sometimes, and sometimes, I’m aware that I’m in a dream.
I don’t know if everyone can do this, or if it means I’m a little mixed up, but it has led to some truly inspirational nights!
Cat was born from one of these dreams. She came out of my memories of being a teenager, but the central story arc came out of a reoccurring dream I’d had about a derelict hospital in my home town.
For some reason, I’d pictured it as a dark and scary place with hallways full of weeds, drug dealers and sketchy people in the corners. Maybe the dream came out of my memories of trips to the X-ray department after (frequent) falls during figure skating, or maybe from my hazy memories of being hospitalized for pneumonia as a child.
But whatever the cause, the dream hospital was scary, and this is what Cat sees when she finds herself in an altered state in the hospital following her car accident. This was the initial spark or seed, but Cat and her sister have grown it all by themselves, taking me through their twists and turns as they told me their story.
A few weeks ago, I finished a story about Vanessa. It’s still a rough draft, but she was telling me (in her own dramatic way, of course!) that it was her turn already.
So I obliged. But that’s for another time!
So remember, book one is out and available (and for those that haven’t bought yet, I’m toying with the idea of a price drop to celebrate book 2’s release, so shhhhh!)
Book 2, The Stone Dragon, will be available for all your holiday reading on the 26th- just in time for that long in between holiday week off school!
And of course, where you can find my books!
